San Jose Jazz Summer Fest
A Variety of Musical Styles
It all started in 1990 as the San Jose Jazz Fest, a single day event that celebrated jazz music. Since then, it has grown into the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest and stands as one of the most popular music festivals in the Western US, covering 12 stages over 3 days. The festival not only features some of the top jazz performers in the world, but a variety of musical styles and talents from across the globe. Enjoy jazz, zydeco, tejano, rhythm and blues, rock, swing, and more. There will be over 80 performances total at this year’s Fest, which will take place Friday August 9 through Sunday August 11 in downtown San Jose. The main stage is located in Plaza de Cesar Chavez with the other dozen stages scattered around surrounding blocks.
There’s More Than Just Music
In addition to the world-class musical performances, festival goers can enjoy a wide variety of food options. Vendors will also be selling arts and crafts, as well as festival related merchandise. Other highlights include swing dance lessons throughout the weekend on the Verizon Swing Stage, the Big Easy Parade on Saturday afternoon at 1:30, and a jazz mass on Saturday at 4:30 pm. Ticket prices range from $5 to $250. The former is for 1 day general admission, while the latter gets you a VIP pass for all 3 days. VIP tickets include better stage access, a special entrance to the festival, as well as complimentary food and drink tastings. It’s a feast for the senses, and an event you’ll be talking about for months to come. For more information, head to jazzfest.sanjosejazz.org
