Palo Alto's Junior Museum & Zoo
Live and Learn at the Junior Museum & Zoo -Kids from ages 2 to 99 enjoy all that the Junior Museum & Zoo has to offer. Founded in 1934 by Josephine O’Hara in the basement of a schoolhouse, The Junior Museum & Zoo (JMZ) was the first museum of its kind west of the Mississippi river. Located in the heart of Palo Alto, JMZ is a special place where kids can learn about science and nature in an engaging environment. By means of hands-on science exhibits, nature displays, and live animals, the museum piques curiosity in the minds of each visitor and provides a unique learning opportunity for all attendees.
The Zoo houses more than 50 species of animals, many of which pay visits to area schools as part of JMZ’s educational outreach program. The museum features many popular critters, some big, some small. Come explore the museum and meet bobcats, raccoons, hedgehogs, bats, ferrets, snakes, fish, invertebrates, birds, and a giant tortoise. Come see what all the buzz is all about.
