At the Creekside Inn we highly value our Stanford Hospital guests while on the road to recovery! A little off the beaten path, our hotel is the perfect retreat of comfort and tranquility with grounds surrounded by gardens, pathways along the natural creek and sitting areas that all inspire wellness. With attention to every detail, our staff strives to provide extraordinary care of our Stanford Hospital guests and we greatly appreciate any guest feedback on their stay. Below is a letter from one of our recent guests:

To: Louis Carreno, General Manager of Creekside Inn

Dear Mr. Carreno,

From Sunday, April 21st until Wednesday, May 1st I was a resident of room 412. My surgeon had recommended Creekside Inn as a comfortable place to stay during my recovery. I am writing to praise the housekeeping staff. Each worked so hard and kept my room and the fourth floor immaculate.

Yet, my purpose is to praise each of their pleasant, helpful, professional, and comforting attitudes. After an eight hour surgery, my first 3 to 4 days were not pleasant. Surgery was to correct a deficit on my head and face so I was quite bruised, swollen, and had diminished vision. Each of the housekeepers treated me with respect and kindness.

I would especially like to give thanks to the housekeeper Maria who topped the list with her kind eyes, smile, and professional attitude. Maria lifted my spirits with her gentleness and help. You could not ask for a more perfect employee.

The housekeeper/grounds supervisor was also respectful and efficient. On two occasions she was prompt, yet pleasant with her assistance.

I am a retired Registered Nurse who worked in Acute Care with children, then adults who had cancer. Many of these people, as well as other patients, need reconstructive surgery after their disease is hopefully healed. At times they are faced with individuals who snicker and laugh upon seeing them pre-op or post-op because of their disfigurement. The housekeeping staff not once reacted this way toward me.

My second post-op day my physician needed to make a house call to room 412 because of an unexpected problem with my vision. My doctor was pleased at the cleanliness of my room, the beautiful view of trees and sky from the balcony, and what the room offered. I told my surgeon that the biggest treasure of Creekside Inn was the housekeeping staff. We talked about how the kind and helpful attitudes of the housekeepers would help in post-op recovery.

I will be returning on a regular basis over the next year. And, yes, I plan on staying at the Creekside Inn. Also, I will be recommending Creekside Inn to a friend who is scheduling a June surgery with a different physician. Thank you for managing a facility where patient’s can have the positive experience I encountered.

Vintage Vehicles & Family Festival

A Parade of Excitement and Cars -

Celebrate the American spirit of technological achievement at the 9th annual Vintage Vehicles & Family Festival at the Museum of American Heritage (MOAH). The event will be held on Saturday, May 4th from 9:30am to 4:30pm and features a range of exciting spectacles. This free community event is hosted in collaboration with the City of Palo Alto's 91st annual May Fete Parade & Fair.

Come early to catch a good view of the ever-popular May Fete Parade. You will see a number of vintage vehicles, polished and shining for all to see along Homer Avenue. The Museum will come alive with activity, including hands-on science exhibits, live music, and educational activities centered on heritage arts. Heritage Park will be hosting many of the events. This Palo Alto festival offers a one-of-a-kind experience of vintage cars, parades, entertainment, and more.

The Clean the World Organization Teams Up with the Creekside Inn to Reduce Waste

Clean the World, Reduce Waste, and Prevent Illnesses -

Clean the World is a game changing nonprofit dedicated to reducing waste and illness. The organization works to reduce waste created by personal products like soap and shampoo, while also preventing illnesses that can be prevented by the use of these very same items.

So, what can you do to help?

When staying at less eco-friendly hotels, bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and other personal hygiene products.
If you use any of the products provided, be sure to use the remains, or donate what you don’t use.
Recycle any containers.

The Creekside Inn, in conjunction with the Clean the World organization, purchases 36,000-kilowatt hours of renewable energy each year. Along with other Greystone Hotels, the Creekside Inn has led the way in offering green amenities. In fact, the Creekside Inn was the first Palo Alto hotel to offer electric car charging stations for guests. Clean the World and the Creekside Inn have been very successful in their effort to collect shampoo, soaps, and other items that are often discarded before being used.

How Clean the World Works -

After going through all the personal hygiene products, Clean the World distributes them to homeless shelters around the country, as well as impoverished countries across the globe. In four short years, Clean the World has gathered, salvaged, and redistributed more than 12 million bars of soap in nearly 70 countries. By giving these products to those in need, many airborne illnesses can be prevented.

Celebrate Earth Day 2013 in Palo Alto

Do your part on Earth Day -

Every year, communities in nearly 200 countries around the world come together to celebrate Earth Day, a holiday dedicated to environmental protection and preservation. Earth Day is held on April 22nd of every year. The holiday is always a hit in the Bay Area, especially in Palo Alto, where the community celebrates an entire week of festivities and activities focused on environmental activism. This year, the Earth Day Network continues its Billion Acts of Green campaign, which encourages people to take an action to help improve their communities. The Creekside Inn is also doing their part by donating a portion of all room and meeting room revenue from April 22 to a leading Nature Conservation Organization.

Lights, Camera, Environmental Action -

On April 18th, the Greenlight Earth Day Film Festival will be held at the Cubberly Theater in Palo Alto. The show stars at 7pm. The festival celebrates Earth Day and features film projects that explore how individual actions can reduce environmental damage. Come out and support the local artists and students who have worked to bring special cinematic stories to life.

Help Save the Bay on Earth Day -

On April 20th, you can head to Palo Alto's Baylands Earth Day celebration. Outdoor outfitter REI will team up with the Save the Bay foundation at Palo Alto's Baylands Nature Preserve for a special day of learning and fun. Come out and enjoy live animals, bird walks, fish netting, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and interactive nature stations. Participants will also have a chance to get their hands dirty for the good of the planet by clearing out invasive species.

Spring Sports at Stanford

Spring is in the air, and that means the excitement of championship athletics is the name of the game at Stanford University. If baseball’s your game, Stanford Cardinal season is currently in full swing, with a complete schedule of regular season games scheduled at home and away through May 26th. The NCAA Regional and Super Regional games begin May 31st, with the College World Series scheduled to begin June 15th. If you’re pining for the college football season, but just can’t wait until September, you’re in luck! The annual Cardinal & White Spring Game is scheduled for April 13th at Stanford Stadium. The 2012 Rose Bowl champs kick off at 3pm, but be sure to arrive early for tail gaiting and plenty of fun pre-game festivities, like family friendly activities, food, music, and more. All ticket proceeds will go directly to the operations of The Bridge School, a non-profit organization that helps developmentally impaired children grow into active, self sufficient members of their communities.
